Dementia Support

The Sunflower Café

The Sunflower Café is a community project, provided and funded by the Mothers’ Union (North Hampshire Downs) and the Vine Church in Odiham, for people from surrounding villages and towns living with dementia.

Refreshments are available and are free of charge. Games and activities can be played, with support from volunteer helpers, who are all ‘Dementia Friends’, an Alzheimer’s Society information initiative.

There are many popular table-top games and puzzles available, many specially designed for people with memory issues. There are also regular Memory Lane singing sessions and chair-based exercise classes. There is a library service, whereby, once registered, visitors may borrow games and puzzles on a short-term basis.

Time at the Café can allow the family member/carer to chat with others and thereby break down the barriers of isolation.

They aim to be caring and confidential to all, while dispelling the myths and stigma than can surround all forms of dementia.

Elaine Lewington and Jane Seymour are the co-ordinators of the Sunflower Café, which meets every Wednesday between 2.00pm and 4.00pm at the Old School, London Road, Odiham, RG29 1AJ.
