NHS Charges

From 1 April 2018, the charges are:

  • Prescription (per item): £8.80
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £104.00
  • 3-month PPC: £29.10

If you have to pay for 4 or more prescription items in 3months, or more than 14 items in 12months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.  The charge for a single prescription item is £8.80, whereas a 3month PPC will cost you £29.10 and a 12 month PPC £104.00.

What Entitles You to Free Prescriptions?


The NHS will cover the cost of your prescription if you are:

  • 60 or over.
  • Under 16.
  • 16, 17 or 18 and in qualifying full-time education.


The NHS will cover the cost of your prescriptions if, at the time the prescription is dispensed, you're included in an award of:

  • Income Support.
  • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance paid on its own or with contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance.
  • Pension credit or/and Pension Credit.
  • Child Tax Credit and/or Working Tax Credit

Exemption Certificates

  • Maternity - while pregnant or within 12 months of having a baby.
  • Medical - if you have a qualifying medical condition.
  • NHS Tax Credit exemption Certificate
  • HC2 Certifate  - NHS Low Income Scheme certificate for full help with medical costs.
  • War pension exemption certificate - covering the cost of prescriptions relating to your accepted disability

Patient Online Access

If you are registered to receive NHS treatment with the practice it is simple to enrol for this service. Once enrolled it offers rapid and easy access to make an appointment, with no telephone queue or charge.

With this service, you can:

  • Cancel and book your appointments
  • Order and track repeat medication requests
  • Access your medical records, including test results
  • Update your contact details.

Simply present your photographic ID (passport or driving licence) to one of our receptionists and they will get you registered.

You can either be given a print out of your account details or we will send you an email to enable you to access the Patient Access website.



The NHS App

The new, simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services on your smartphone or tablet.  You can use it to:

  • Check your symptoms
  • Find out what do when you need help urgently
  • book & manage appointments at the surgery
  • order repeat prescriptions
  • view your medical record securely
  • choose how the NHS uses your data

To start using the NHS App you can download it from the App Store or Google Play and just follow the instructions:

  1. Enter your postcode, locate your GP surgery and press continue
  2. If you already have an online account with your surgery you can use your current logon, if not request NO and proceed to set up logon details
  3. Enter your email address and create a password - agree and continue
  4. An email will be sent to the email address provided to confirm account details - CONFIRM and VERIFY
  5. You should now be able to log on
  6. Enter your mobile number and enter the 6 digit code sent to you (this will help to keep your information secure)
  7. Prove your identity; full name, date of birth, take a photo of your ID and record a short video quoting a security number sent to you (can take up to 2 hours to confirm identity)
  8. Once identity is confirmed you can use your NHS login to access all features of the NHS App, including booking appointments, managing repeat prescriptions and viewing parts of your medical record.
